A tank in Ceylon, built by Aggabodhi II. (Cv.xlii.67). The country around the tank was used as a base in Parakkamabāhu's war against Gajabāhu (Cv.lxx.286, 300). Gajabāhu lived there in comparative peace during his last days, and he also died there (Cv.lxxi.l, 5). Later, Māgha and Jayabāhu erected fortifications in Gangātata (Cv.lxxxiii.15).
It is identified with the modern Kantalai. See Cv.Trs.i.310, n.3.
